Starting on April 24, 1915, Turkey's Ottoman government carried out mass killings that claimed the lives of more than a million Armenians, amounting to what most refer to as the Armenian Genocide. France was at the time one of the main safe havens for them, and is now home to Europe's biggest Armenian community. France announced earlier this year that it would hold commemorations annually on April 24th. DW's Lisa Louis reports from the southern city of Marseille, which was the first port of call for Armenian refugees.
