It's been 75 years since the forced deportation of up to 120,000 Turks from their homes in the former Soviet Union. Joseph Stalin packed them onto trains to central Asia, because he viewed them, as well as other minorities, as a security threat to the USSR. The Ahiska Turks were the last of the deported minorities to return.

A man has been arrested at Heathrow airport after Turkey said it had deported a British Islamic State suspect. Scotland Yard said the 26-year-old was held "on suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts under section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006", adding that it was "Syria-related".

Turkey has started sending Islamic State fighters captured in Syria back to their homelands. The 'IS' fighters have been held at deportation centers in Turkey and, according to the Turkish interior ministry, the first to be repatriated is a US citizen. A German combatant will also be sent back today. Turkey's move to repatriate fighters of the so-called Islamic State comes as more evidence is being uncovered of the jihadi group's crimes in Syria.
