Turkey’s military operation continues in northeastern Syria as Kurdish fighters, formerly sponsored by Washington, join forces with the Syrian government to resist Ankara’s incursion. RT America’s Rachel Blevins reports.

Syrian troops have begun moving into Kurdish-held territory in the country's north east, as Turkey and its allies continue their offensive, insisting they are countering an “imminent terrorist threat”.

Turkey starts Operation Peace Spring in northern Syria. as a peace-keeping measure to clear terror groups in areas close to its border, dismissing NATO objections against the Syria offensive.

Kurdish officials in northern Syria say they are working with the Assad government in Damascus to fend off Turkey's military in their region. In a political and military shift, Kurdish-led forces are to deploy side-by-side with government troops in the Kurdish-controlled region at the country's border with Turkey. The deal was announced after US President Donald Trump ordered the withdrawal of most of its troops in Syria, opening the way for Turkey to launch its attack. US forces had been supporting the Kurds in the battle against the so-called Islamic State. Turkey sees the Kurdish SDF fighters in the region as terrorists, and is aiming to create a safe zone to resettle Syrian refugees living in Turkey.

Race to the border: Syrian Kurds call in Assad against Turkey offensive

Vice President Mike Pence announced Monday that the Trump administration was imposing sanctions against Turkey over its invasion of northern Syria. He told reporters at the White House that the president has been monitoring the situation, had spoken to Turkish President Erdogan and called for an immediate ceasefire. Pence also said that Mr. Trump had directed him to lead a delegation to Turkey to bring the bloodshed to an end.
